Iya Sushi: Your Taste Buds Will Love You!

By Madinatou Diallo on March 2, 2013

Have you ever wanted to leave campus but didn’t have the time to do it? Do you walk into Blanchard and wonder what you will eat because you are sick and tired of the same food options? Do you find yourself looking through the MHC menus just to lose appetite? Well, Iya Sushi and Noodle Kitchen will solve these problems. http://www.facebook.com/IYaModernSushiNoodles

While we MoHos have a lot of options for food on campus, after a while, all of the food starts to taste the same. I don’t think our chefs are to blame for this, but the repetition of the menus. Going to Amherst or Northampton is fun, but it’s too far away. And if you miss the bus, going or coming back, you end up having to wait for the next one. This means wasting time we MoHos don’t have what with our hardworking and competitive nature.

For those who don’t know, Iya Sushi and Noodle Kitchen is a Japanese restaurant that opened at the Village Commons sometime in January. The restaurant is somewhat small and has a very intimate feel. The furniture is modern, like something you would find at Starbucks. There is also a bar for those old enough who wish to have a drink or two.  A TV–behind the bar–and the latest songs provide entertainment; however, I suggest bringing a friend or two with you since eating alone sucks. Chances are they will thank you for it. The overall feel of the place is very different from the usual. Iya has a way of making you unaware of the fact that you are right across campus.

The menu is different from the usual sushi places. I think this is perfect as it gives the cuisine a unique quality. The carte includes delicious entrees like hibachi (choice of veg., shrimp, chicken, or beef served with white rice or egg noodles), sashimi, soups and many sushi rolls like the Fantastic Rolls. They have this spicy sauce that is actually spicy. You have the choice of hot or mild–both taste great. The serving size is very proportionate. The food is so tasty you’ll probably eat it all but if you don’t no worries because they have to go plates.

Iya is very popular among South Hadley residents. Thus, I recommend calling ahead to make a reservation. It will save you a half hour. The service is great! The waiters are very nice and friendly. They are always around to answer to your needs whether it is more water or sauce that you desire. Also, you do not have to wait long to get your food. It is usually ready within 15 minutes or so, depending on your order.

I recommend Iya to MHC students, visiting parents, and to anyone around the area. It has great food, a lovable ambiance, and amiable service. Try Iya! Your taste buds will love you for it!
