Which Genes Did Peyton Get That Eli Didn't?

By Morgan-Rae Ciani on November 26, 2014

The New York Giants are seeing another tough season. With their six game losing streak still going strong, the NFL, media, and fans are looking for someone to blame.

As of now, the word on the street is that this may be the last season for head coach Tom Coughlin who has been coaching the Giants for the past 10 years. He brought the team two Super Bowl wins alongside Giants starting quarterback Eli Manning.

The question that many people are asking at this point is why is Coughlin getting the boot and not Manning?

Currently for the 2014 season, Manning has thrown 21 touchdown passes, except he has also been sacked 22 times and has thrown 12 interceptions.

Last season he only had 18 touchdown passes, and 39 sacks–39!–and 27 interceptions.

While it’s obvious he has improved slightly from last year, he is still not doing well and this is hurting the team.

Fans find it unfair that Coughlin will be the one suffering when Manning is the one that needs major improvement. Some say that if it wasn’t for his two Super Bowl wins and of course, his last name, he would have been traded long ago.

But let’s not forget about Eli’s infamous older brother Peyton, who had an amazing career for the Indianapolis Colts and then moved on to have an even more extraordinary career with the Denver Broncos.

For his 2014 season with the Broncos, he has thrown 34 touchdowns, only 12 sacks and 9 interceptions. The 2013 season, also with the Broncos, saw 55 touchdowns, 18 sacks, and 10 interceptions.

During this seasons’ Broncos vs. the San Francisco 49ers game, Peyton beat Brett Farve’s record of 508 career touchdown passes.

So the question everyone is wondering is what went wrong for Eli?

Early in his career he seemed to be following down his father’s and brother’s footsteps and becoming the football prodigy he was born to be. Then it all seemed to disappear.

In one of Eli’s interviews a reporter asked Eli if he ever goes to his big brother for help and he responded with “all the time, except Peyton refuses to share his secrets with me.”

The remainder of the season should be an interesting one. The Giants played tough and well this past Sunday against rival Dallas Cowboys, but ended up losing in the end.

And as for what’s going to happen to Coughlin and Eli? Well I guess we’re just going to have to wait and see.
