Marcos Ambrose Earns Win in Zippo 200 at Watkins Glen
The NASCAR Nationwide Series visited Watkins Glen for the second of the series’ three road courses, and a familiar face visited Victory Lane. Marcos Ambrose was the one with the early momentum until an off-course excursion with Kyle Busch. They were to eventually work their way back up the field, but their charge to the front was interrupted by a caution for debris between turns five and six. Before the caution, there was also contact between Trevor Bayne and Kenny Habul, causing Habul to spin. However, Habul was able to turn around and continue. After the restart, Ambrose and Busch were able to make their ways up to seventh and tenth respectively.
The caution came out again when Kevin O’Connell made contact with the wall at the Inner Loop. Before the caution, Marcos Ambrose had found momentum again and was the leader on the restart. However, he was unable to pull away too far as there was yet another caution soon after JJ Yeley spun with a little bit of help from Trevor Bayne. The race was eventually back underway with Marcos Ambrose continuing to lead.
The final caution came when Landon Cassill slowed on track due to a downed right front tire. After the restart, Marcos Ambrose was able to put several seconds between himself and second-place runner Kyle Busch. Busch was able to make a late race charge on Ambrose, cutting the gap down to less than a second by the final lap. Ambrose held off Kyle Busch for the win, his fourth straight Nationwide Series win at the Glen.
Joey Logano, Brad Keselowski, and Matt Kenseth rounded out the top five.
